the "categories" tab for subscriptions shows all taxonomies, including containers. but notification isn't sent if you subscribe to a container. the attached patch simply omits containers on the categories tab. (i suppose a fix could also try to send email if you pick these, although such a fix should probably also show you on the categories page which ones are containers and which other categories they include..)

arthurf commentedYeah, I think my preference would be to actually allow for a VID subscription and sending all posts with categories whose parent is the VID. I think this will require some interface work to cleanup how this is done.

mindless commentedmy comments were specifically related to forum.module, where nodes can't be assigned to parent/container terms. however, just tried basic taxonomy stuff and I see that nodes can use those parent terms. so, omitting them certainly doesn't make sense. i updated DRUPAL-5 branch to indent the terms based on the depth value, to give some visual cue of the hierarchy. this is a good enough fix for now.
