One of our sites not only gets so hammered with spam of all kinds that we had to turn off trackback altogether (dozens of hits per minute), this blackhole module is great.
It would be nice if it also passed off queries for trackback reads. The spammers still have us in their databases, and so come looking for all their trackback spam over and over, every hour or two, slamming the site for about 5 minutes straight. Maybe this pass-through wouldn't save anything in site burden, but if trackback is off, it would be nice if, with this module, queries would be dumped to a blank page rather than a page-load. (Our 404s default to the search page.)
If this is unworkable, or would not have a significant effect on performance, never mind.
(BTW, loving this spam 2.0 package. Thanks for all the hard work!)

jeremy commentedI do not understand the problem you are describing. What URL are spammers hitting that is wasting resources, and not currently blocked by the trackback_blackhole module?

laura s commentedWhat I am seeing are multiple queries for trackbacks they think they've posted, but do not exist.
trackback/489
trackback/490
trackback/491
etc. etc. etc.
I understand that this is not Drupal's normal trackback ID. I would not mention this if it weren't coming from those very same poker spammers who are already in the custom filters.
For your consideration.

jeremy commentedFixed here in version 1.0.1 of the trackback_blackhole module. Will be included with version 2.0.11 of the spam module. When released, I will mark this task fixed.

jeremy commentedManually closing, the project module doesn't seem to do this automatically anymore.
