I had this module installed on www.pponline.co.uk (run by the company I work for) and was using it to filter comments and forum posts. Last night I tried to post a topic after wondering why we'd had no new posts since going live with the forum. The browser just sat there and sat there, eventually timing out.

I looked in the administer > content section and there was my node - just unpublished. This even happens for the Admin user (which, in theory, should bypass all spam checking shouldn't it?). Upon disabling the spam module - submissions are returned to normal.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure what other information I can give you as there are no errors at all - not even in the log file. This happens in IE7 and FF2. This happens at work and at home using two different ISP's. We're running Drupal 4.7.5 on httpd-2.0.52, php-4.3.9 and mysql-4.1.20.

If you want any more information about this - please ask! I'd love to use this module. I'm successfully using it on www.thingy-ma-jig.co.uk (a private site running on a different server with about the same software specs as www.pponline.co.uk - except its php 5, not 4).

It sounds like your IP address has been blacklisted for posting too much spam. If you're accessing a site through NAT (or a load balancer, depending on its configuration), this can happen because multiple people will have the same IP address.

A couple of solutions -- if it's because you marked your own content as spam (ie, testing), simply delete your spam content and you will be unblacklisted. Take a look at admin >> comments >> spam and see if all spam has the same IP, if so, then you'll need to disable blacklisting.

IP blacklist is configured at admin >> settings >> spam. To disable, set Detected spam postings before blacklisting IP to unlimited.

Ahh interesting - that is possible.

I wrote a script which used the scanning function to do a spam check on about 2,500 existing forum topics. Seeing as they were all imported from phpBB to Drupal by my work IP Address, I assume it detected that IP address as a spamming one.

I'll look into this! If this turns out to be the issue - you are one hell of a diagnostician!

No further updates, marking as fixed.

(Note, there was a bug fixed some weeks back in which when an admin marked someone elses comment as spam, the admins IP was getting blacklisted, not the spammers. That could also have been related to your earlier bug report.)

I think you were right as it started functioning fine after a clean reinstall (removing entry from system and dropping relevant tables)... Sorry I forgot to reply back!
