Hi to everyone!

I have a distributed site with three Drupal servers being served and cached by another Varnish server. Because of security policies in my company, the Drupal servers must be in a DMZ while being served (in production) so they don't have internet access in the meanwhile. To perform maintenance tasks I have to move the server to another network that has internet access. The thing is that when the Drupal server is in the DMZ, the page that contains the SoundCloud embed gives a timeout (from Nginx). On the other side, when I move the server to the network that has internet connection, the the page that contains the SoundCloud embed responds immediately which heads me to think that the server needs internet connection to perform the fetch of this embed and present it to the client.

Please clarify this for me. Thanks in advance.

PD: I already installed the necessary packages (php-curl and others) in the server serving the Drupal site (excuse the redundancy).

This was correct. The module did require internet access as the default formatter requests the oEmbed code via PHP.

https://developers.soundcloud.com/docs/oembed

There is now a new formatter that uses Javascript to call the oEmbed API. There is no requests made from the server when using this option.

The releases for D7 and D8/9 both support this feature.
