I currently had the widget setup to display the following counters at the top of the page: facebook, twitter, googleplus, and share this. the widget now only display the share this counter box. checking the html code it appears that their is no iframe code being rendered for the other 3 social media counter. Their div blocks are still there though.

Checking the FF setup I noticed the AddOn Adblock Plus being installed and the filter list "Fanboy's Social Blocking List" activated. Unchecking this checkbox in Adblock Plus Preferences did the trick, the social buttons not showing up before reappeared. Fanboy's list seems not to be complete or well cared of anyway - e.g. Pinterest was never affected by the filter.
You may want to check any other social button blocking addon in your browser if you run into the described problem, there are several other addons out there.
