I didn't want to completely hijack the bug report over here: http://drupal.org/node/1344668
I think this would be an excellent feature, and a very natural extension of this module's functionality. Unfortunately, I can't do the work, and morningtime isn't planning on it either.
So this is just putting the request out there in hopes that somebody else will jump in and do it.

(Morningtime's response on that other thread was as follows:)
I have no plans for dates, but if anyone supplies a patch, I will commit it.
My thoughts on the subject:
- the jQuery UI sliders can only slide integers (e.g. unix timestamps will work)
- implement date-pickers instead of regular input boxes?
- date slider could be extended in plugins/facetapi/widget_links.inc
- use some kind of preprocessing to represent timestamps as date_format (widget configuration option?)

Dates are supported as long as your dates indexed as are Unix timestamp integers. Then you can theme the .tpl.php file to change the input text boxes to date-pickers that return timestamps, and you should be able to do it.
