There hasn't been a commit on this module since January 2012, and it appears that development has moved to the fork in madmatter23's sandbox, which is looking pretty solid. Would the maintainers of this module be open to the idea of bringing in the sandbox version and moving this module to a beta release, perhaps as a 3.x version?

This would definitely stimulate more community involvement and help to make search_api_location the go-to solution for location search. This module fills a huge gap in the Drupal contrib universe, so it would be great to move the project out of dev and toward a point release.

So far there's been no response from the maintainers, either through this issue or via direct contact from myself and drunken monkey. The most recent commit on this module is from January, 2012, and the maintainers have not participated in the issue queue for over a year. In the meantime, it appears that all active development has moved to the fork in madmatter23's sandbox.

The following comment is not intended, in any way, to be derogatory, but at what point is it appropriate to consider a module to have been abandoned by its current maintainers? If the maintainers are unresponsive, what are the steps required to introduce a new maintainer (in this case, likely drunken monkey, if he's cool with that)? I'm sure the community would benefit from a solid location search solution (I know I would), so it would be great to move this forward.

Hello,

I'm the current maintainer of Search API Location (shame on me) after long time absence I have again (some) time to work on location based search for Search API.
I had a very short look at the sandbox, and it really looks good!
I already mailed Thomas to say that I will look to the sandbox and commit it to Search API location module (we still have to discuss which branch, 7.x-2.x or a new 7.X-3.x) and I will make him co-maintainer too.

Excuses for the long delay, I also want to move this forward!
