What does the sliding panel?

Mine is working properly, but it's empty.

Can i add some links there with icons for most used pages?

The sliding panel consists of 5 regions, so you are able to place blocks in there.
And I mean any blocks. So if you have a module or custom block that outputs most used pages, you can place it into the sliding region.
