How to filter 'allowed roles' to roles of current user? [#1361180]

It looks very promising, but for the life of me I can't make sense of it. Am I missing documentation?

I've created a "role reference" field in my content type that and I like that I'm able to select the roles. What would be really great is to narrow those roles down to the one that is associated with the author. I tried creating a view but found that to be a road to nowhere.

What you are seeing is what the module does. Much like a node reference field shows a list of nodes or a user reference field shows a list of users, the role reference field shows a list of roles.

To actually do something with the role that is selected would require using some custom code, rules, or any other module that can act on a field's value.

If you want the only roles to be available in the select box to be equal to a role that the node author/editor has, you could try using https://drupal.org/project/option_trim
