The real power for distributed sites would be in the ability to detect and pass through arguments. Such as:
-username
-taxonomy term (single or multiple)
-CCK field value(s)
-time values (from node, or date fields)
-url's and nid's (maybe for remote references?)
You would need a detection system on the client site that can get the value for these different contexts and a mapping system to put those values into the right argument in views. Best of course to make it as generic as possible. Basically this is replicating the part of views that detects arguments and sending it to views on the remote site.
