We (amazon, chrisstrahl, gdemet, jredding and myself) had a quick meeting to review the content of the 'Develop with Drupal' section on the homepage.
Change:
* CVS /ac to 'active developers' (done)
* remove issue list
* add handbook
What would be really cool:
# of new projects submitted *
# of currently avail contrib modules + themes for D 6 & 7
* should this be in the past 7 days ?

drummJen has had a chance to see this code with #371970: Move Drupal.org activity block?
Comment #2
drummCommits this week is currently counting all time.
If everything is timeboxed to a set number of days, the content can be more simple:
*In the last 7 days*
1409 commits by 248 people
# issue comments by # people
Is the query for the commits/people.
select count(*), count(distinct cvs_user) from cvs_messages WHERE created > unix_timestamp() - 7*24*60*60;Comment #3
jenlamptonI wasn't sure how to deal with all the new content with the old layout, so I just split the list on the left of the 'Develop with Drupal' box into two lists. One for "Current activity" and one for "This week". Let me know if you'd prefer something else.
A few notes:
- The API for CVS activity (#371958: Expose necessary CVS activity statitics for use on d.o) does not include the number of committers, so I left that out
- For consistency's sake, I also dropped the number of people from the "# issue comments by # people".
- The module and theme counts do not currently reflect D6 and D7 only (although crazier queries are in comments, for review)
Here's what I'm using now for all modules:
Here's something like what we'd need for just D6 and D7 modules:
If it's important to limit the number of modules to D6 and D7, I'd love another set of eyes on this query.

lisarex commentedI'd be tempted to merge all the stats into one friendly, bulleted list
Current activity:
* 3,703 active developers that made 1,529 commits this week
* There are 6,885 modules
* 857 themes to choose from
* 5,398 issue comments made this week
* This week, 52 new projects were created
Then move these links beneath:
* Drupal API
* Download Drupal
* Security Info
* Handbook
Also, having "Modules and Themes Explore Drupal modules and themes" is technically redundant since there are links to the modules and themes already, with the stats.. remove?

alex ua commentedI think #4 is a good idea, with three small caveats: 1) I think we should start all of the first items with a #, 2) I think we should group together the "this week" #s, and 3) I think we should limit it to one # per line.
So, something like:
* 6,885 modules to choose from
* 857 themes to choose from
* 3,703 active developers this week
* 1,529 code commits this week
* 5,398 issue comments this week
* 52 new projects were created this week
Actually, after looking at that list, should we just separate out the items with "this week", so something more like:
There are currently:
* 6,885 modules
* 857 themes
This week there were:
* 52 new projects
* 3,703 active developers
* 1,529 code commits
* 5,398 issue comments
Also- I'm guessing that some of these #s are made up, as I can't see how it would be possible for 3k people to have 1500 commits...
Comment #6
lisarex commentedAlex, the # of developers is the # of people with CVS accounts. Both this stat and the commits links to the CVS commit log, hence me suggesting they become a single line.
They are honest-to-goodness stats, otherwise.
Comment #7
alex ua commentedOK- then I highly suggest not using "active developers" in the same line as "this week", since that would be a misplaced modifier and/or super confusing (currently it's the same as saying: this week there were 3k devs who had 1k commits)
Comment #8
lisarex commentedGood point re: superconfusing ;)
How about this (pretty close to what is already there)
There are currently:
* 6,885 modules
* 857 themes
* 3,703 active developers
This week there were:
* 52 new projects
* 1,529 code commits
* 5,398 issue comments
What do you mean by "I think we should start all of the first items with a #" ... the pound symbol? I was thinking each one could be a bullet point
Comment #9
alex ua commentedMeaning we shouldn't start some lines with the number (not the # sign, sorry) rather than start some with a number and some with a description (i.e. 'there are...'), which is what you have in your last comment... ;-)
Comment #10
drummI reshuffled the layout a little and am calling it done.
