This issue is nearly identical to the problem listed here. However I don't think the issue is caused by white listed IP addresses. The recaptcha module calls Drupal's ip_address(), but for Acquia hosted Drupal sites this is likely to return an RFC 1918 private address from $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']. The module should failover to the ip_address function after first checking $_SERVER['AH_Client_IP'] and/or $_SERVER['HTTP_CLIENT_IP'].

Please fix your broken/missing reverse proxy configuration. I guess Acquia can tell you how to fix this environmental issue or you serch for Amazon AWS/Drupal (what Acquia is) issues. ip address function need to return the correct external IP.
