As it stands, this module will not handle 301 redirects correctly, meaning it just throws an error. For example "www.drupal.org" will not work because it is just a 301 redirect to "drupal.org".
i don't think this is a limitation of drupal_http_request(). But I also don't know how to handle it correctly (though I haven't really looked into it yet.)
As it stands, if the drupal_http_request() does not send a 200, then the module throws an error.

japanitrat commenteddrupal_http_request() actually handles a 301 up to a certain number of times (defaults to 3). If limit is reached it returns the last result with a redirect_url. Point is that it still fires a 301, although it gives the already redirected result.
zzolo commentedUpdated. Should now handle more based on content coming back, than 200 response.
