Support for Drush 5 has recently been added to the 6.x-2.x branch, and I hope it'll be possible to backport it to the 6.x-1.x branch. My primary concern is with Drush Make, which (to my understanding) has essentially been abandoned for Drush 4.x, since it's been rolled directly into Drush 5 itself.

It seems to me that Drush Make is fairly important, if not essential; and so we currently depend on an unsupported module with no plans for bug-fix releases. I seem to recall community discussion around this issue, and consensus to proceed with supporting Drush 5 in Aegir 6.x-1.x, but I can't find a reference to it anymore. Hence I've marked the priority as 'Major'.

I reckon that we just jump to 6.x-2.x as quickly as possible, though we would drop support for Drupal 5 sites as a side effect.

I think I agree with steven here - why would we keep 1.x around so long? :) Besides, drush make still works with drush 4, I don't see why we should rush 1.x towards drush 5... unless Aegir 2.x really gets delayed, but considering things as they are, I think we could postpone most release goals for 2.x to a 3.x release if we really need to ditch Drush 4 (and Drupal 5!) support, and therefore just release 2.x already.
