Problem/Motivation

The checkboxes widget shows a list of possible references, with a checkbox and a radio button next to each one.

There's no explanation of what the radio button means, which will be confusing to users who haven't used this before.

I added an optional label for the primary radio. The items have the field label. IF the primary label is empty, the field label is shown.
