Currently, entries to the watchdog table contain the full description from the output of PHPIDS. The down side to his is that the watchdog table can quickly become huge. On one of my public sites, I had to reduce the number of watchdog entries to 10,000 to keep its size under control and it's usually around 150MB, most of which is from PHPIDS. Maybe there could be another DB table that has the descriptions of the triggered filters which are referenced in the watchdog description or have a less verbose logging option.

After further inspection, most of the watchdog's table size was from only about 100 entries from Acquia modules due to a system error. The PHPIDS watchdog entries are usually around 1-2k in size, which isn't too much overall, but is still the largest of any normal entries. Now that the size isn't a concer, I'm closing this issue. Since I am pretty extreme on optimization, I might return to it for the D7 dev version later.
