I also needed a petition without confirmation, and as I can see, I wasn't alone…
Here's a patch for that…
It adds a setting (for each petition) to enable or disable the confirmation (enabled by default so old petition stay as they were).
Don't forget to run update.php because I had to add a field to the database.

Although I love the features of this module, but currently I am using Webform and Webform_report modules to create petitions and they are working great, are highly customizable and very active in developments and updates.
