Now both modules are either buggy or half-maintained, perhaps merging would be good idea?

What bug in particular is bugging you?

well... I was looking for all the redirect like modules - there are too many of them with overlapping functionality
in my case - sub-pathauto is not working at all, maybe problems with global redirect/redirect module

sub-pathauto also didn't work for me,
It's confusing actually which one to use, i also see no reason why there should be two different modules for the same purpose
Personally i prefer this module , it just works
