Is is possible to use the default panel page template when a node is individual panelized?

The workflow is a following:
1) Create a custom panel pane
2) Choose to panelize each node individually
3) Click "Panelize it!" and the custom panel pane is used

The default displays and the individual overrides are mutually exclusive - you can only do one at a time. That said, you can create multiple defaults and select which one to use on a per entity basis, so maybe there's a way of handling your request?
