Hi, is there a simple way I could shift the main body of the page (ie everything except the Primary Links across the top) about 1cm higher up so that it sits just below the white paint "splodge" at the top and so that more content is visible when opening the page?

you can change this, but you need to get your hands in the code. This means that if you update the theme, you will have to redo this again, but luckily, it is a very simple tweak.
Go into the theme folder, and edit the file called "style.css". don't worry if you're not familiar with css, it is very simple. I'm assuming that you have a site title and a logo.
on line 330 of style.css, you should have something like this :
Edit the value "75" to something lower. this will move the page up, including the site name. If you have a logo, you will also have to edit another value, a little bit before the previous one :
Editing these values will shift the content up, or down of course.
IMPORTANT: if you changed the colors of the theme, you will have to go to the theme settings page, where you change the colors, and press enter, even without changing the colors. This is necessary to update the modified css with the new values.
