The NPF module provides node access permission on FileField paths to make certain files private. It does this by providing a checkbox on the CCK Filefield settings page so you can have protected files. The way it protects a path is by adding a .htaccess file in that directory if the user decides to mark that filefield field as "Protected".
Installation:
1. Enable the module
2. Add a new CCK Filefield field and you'll be able to click on a checkbox called "Protect this path" on the field's settings page (admin/content/node-type/[content-type]/fields/[field-name])
