Good catch!

I rewrote the CSS and made the width of the tabs flexible, they now adjust to the text.. Too lazy to make a patch for it, just commited it to the repository. Download the latest tarball to get the latest update (you may have to wait a while for Drupal.org to build a new snapshot archive).

Oh yea, I also removed the fade effect and moved the vertical_tabs files into a new folder, to make room for your alternative which is up next :)
