Use with Content Access

I am using this module with Content Access 7.x-1.2-beta2 and cannot get the two modules to work together as I believe should be possible from what is on the project page. (The only other access module I use is Book Access, and the nodes I am concerned about are a custom content type -- not in a book.)

Essentially, I have a teacher role and a student role. Students should be able to see nodes in which they are referenced and no others. Teachers should be able to see all nodes. No other roles should be able to view these nodes. There are many users of role teacher or student. If I configure permissions for Content Access and this module as I want them, the result is almost OK. Students can only see the nodes in which they are referenced, but teachers cannot see all nodes -- only the nodes that they have authored. Content Access is configured so that teachers can view any nodes as well as the ones they have authored. The only way that a teacher can see all nodes is to grant View to all users, but then all students and anonymous users can see all nodes, which is not desirable.

I have followed the instructions outlined in https://www.drupal.org/node/1009040 and https://www.drupal.org/node/1011126#comment-3890712, which are for D6 versions of the module, but to no avail. I have tried with the priority set the same in both modules as mentioned in the thread linked above, and also tried different combinations of weights between the two modules. That did not work either.
