Hi, first of all, thank you for the great work you did. I have to admit, this is by far the most flexible gallery for drupal!

I am the one who actually submitted the PDF that inspired you to build this module, and I have to admit that you created a module that is very close to my vision. I tested a little bit the functionnalities and it is very promising.
On the other hand, I have to admit that I am a little bit surprised...

I am surprised because you are actually not the first one who is developing a module inspired by my PDF. Another one worked on this and posted the module here :

http://drupal.org/project/prog_gallery

What is actually interesting to notice is that PROG GALLERY is more a work on the user interface, and NODE GALLERY is more a work on the core functionality of the module, that allow its great flexibility (nodes linked etc...)

So here we are in a weird situation, in my own opinion, we have to people who developed 'two half' of a module.

A perfect module would be the combination of both your and Prog module. Imagine that we could combine the great flexibility and admin interface of your module, with the great work on the user interface and the multi-upload-edit-organize function that PROG GALLERY have.

If you had on top of this a great support of VIEWS 2, we would have the best image gallery module on Drupal with no doubt.

What do you think about this ?

first, thank you for your great thought on the drupal gallery, before i start developing this module, i don't know that there's already a module based on your spec, i would like to check it out and see whether we could combine these two module.
As now, it's only an alpha release version, i want to let people test it more and see if this module has a future. If so, i will add the views2 support.

I think this module could grow to be the default gallery solution as long as it sticks to using core module support, cck, imagefile / imagecache, and views. It seems like these modules are the preferred modules / methods that Drupal developers seem to suggest and support. Prog_gallery uses the image.module, while this one uses imagecache, so they are using completely different approaches (I think).

I also think that a gallery system based on cck > imagefield, imagecache and views 2 has a drupal future. At the moment there is not much competition in this regard.

Is there any progress with this module? Seems to me that the maintainer is pretty busy and therefore this module seems to be pretty half cooked.

The approach with imagefield and imagecache is very good and the reason why I do not want to use PROG Gallery but if this module is paused indefinetly I don't think its a good choice for a production site.

Anyways, this module looks great and I hope the maintainer finds the time and the ressources to go on with this.

Title: Thanks for the great work... here some ideas » Node Gallery Status and Ideas.

Here is a status update.

@dddave - Yes, the original author sort of went AWOL but I am doing my best to maintain it. I am using this module on a number of personal sites and client sites, so I can assure you that you will see an official release of this module as well as an upgrade to d7 once an official release is rolled out.

I am currently working on views2 integration and once I make sure all the major issues from the queue are closed, I'll roll out the Beta. I hope to have the first release completed by July.

@couzinhub I find it interesting that you mentioned that you liked the UI of PROG_GALLERY better. I actually found it somewhat confusing, although the sorting is definitely easier. Overtime, I would like to greatly improve the admin UI for this module, however, I would not like to adopt the PROG UI. I feel we can do better. Hopefully this becomes "the" Drupal Gallery module so we can get some others weighing in on the future of this module.

I am very glad to hear that you are working on this with effort. I agree with you that this module can be the gallery application for Drupal. As I see it it takes definitly the right direction by using imagecache/imagefield and the planned views2 integration.
As a matter of fact this module should be somehow funded because the gallery-situation of Drupal is absolutly unsatisfactory and this module is about to be the saviour. A quick search on this topic reveals countless threads about a gallery solution and especially for Drupal users with minor skills this is a problem that might "kill" them.
Sadly I am pretty broke at the moment but perhaps you could put a chip-in widget onto the project page.
Additionally I think it would be justified to be openly ambitious. You are about to solve a very bad Drupal-situation and some spotlight might help in this case. I would compare it "somewhat" with sun's very bold approach to his wysiwyg-project. Be bold!

I noticed that NancyDru has some interest in this project and I consider this a very good sign.

@kmonty : Sounds absolutelly awesome, and I thing you're right about the UI, we need to work on the UI but not copy the PROG one. The only thing I'd add to this is whatever is added should always be optional, so we don't trap the dev/user in a specific UI.

Feeling very optimistic about this module, it's the best thing that hapen to Drupal for images since imagecache.

Version: 6.x-1.0-alpha1 » 6.x-2.x-dev

Wow! Therefore the quiteness here in the last weeks.

I hopefully have time to test out the new branch over the weekend. As soon as my paypal account is loaded again I am going to send down some drops and hope they help to make an ocean.

I just want to express my support and my confidence about this project. The new branch really shows first signs of greatness and I hope the flood of bug reports is not too discouraging.

In addition it is nice to see that the original maintainer is back on board. I hope both maintainers stay with this project as it is really filling a void.

I agree completely with dddave. If anything, the number of bug reports and feature requests should indicate just how enthusiastic we all are for this module. :-)

I am going to close this issue because it is no longer relevant and shouldn't in the issue queue.

Thanks for the support
