I really like the way the screenshot looks, but one thing hopped out at me. I sometimes have enough roles that the screen scrolls side-to-side even on large monitors. Your popup for permissions would need to be aware of this and take it into account, but that certainly is a very neat way of handling it that would be cleaner than current options.

skilip commentedHey flickerfly,
I have certainly thought about this myself but haven't figured out how to overcome this. It would be really cool if the permission titles could be rotated 45 degrees ccw, but that's practically almost impossible. Do you have any suggestions?

flickerfly commentedSome sort of summary of the role would be more likely helpful in the scenario I'm talking about. It would shrink the column width requirements. Then maybe you could color-code the columns so that each column has a unique color and that would make it harder to enable the wrong role. Perhaps a typical spreadsheet trick would work. Tier the names and place them on top of each other so that they can then overlap other columns. The color-coding would help show which role went with which column.
I don't "really" like the idea, but maybe it will get some other options flowing and it's at least something.
