I haven't been an active Drupal contributor in almost as much time. Unless there are new features or a necessity to refactor the current code, I'm not sure a new realease would have much to offer.

Fair enough, But there is a new feature - rules support.
I'm bringing it up just because surprising as it might be, someone actually tried to use it and couldn't.
