If the list's description is blank, then this error is generated when adding the list to Drupal.

Database is Postgres 8.4.

This sounds like an issue in Mailman Manager (or possibly User Mailman Register) rather than Mailman Groups. Please try disabling the Mailman Groups module and then try adding a list again - I suspect you will see the same error.
