I am using the latest release version of location. Originally I was just going to add an update to the issue indicating that location fieldset in the User Profile form was displaying collapsed at all times despite content type settings which demand otherwise, when I discovered that none of the settings within the content type User Profile were being acknoweldged in the form display of the User Profile.
I have set it to have a form display weight of 10, which should have moved it to the bottom of the User form, I un-clicked the checkboxes to be not collapsed and not collapsible, I also set the number of locations to be multiple, and specified that location name, address, city, state and country were to be collected and lat/long should not be shown. Every single one of these settings are ignored. I have cleared cache and tested using a default theme. Behavior remains the same. Using Drupal 6.13

equinox commentedAha! I understand my confusion now, so at least I hope my notes here might help anyone else similarly befuddled. The "Profile" content type is added by the "Content Profile" module and is not how you control location display settings for the location form for the default Drupal User profile.
Although I have deactivated the content profile module on the site in question it did not remove the content type of "User Profile" I mistakenly mistook this content type's settings for where I would set my User location settings. If I were to reactivate this module and add some fields to this content type it would display as a node type that included a location form and would likely correctly display the node form settings I selected here - so not the critical issue I suspected. What a relief!
To change the location settings for the basic drupal user profile the path is
admin/user/settings
not
admin/content/node-type/profile.
Sorry for the confusion
