User Locations - to be, or not to be?

I have what will hopefully be a simple question.

I'm setting up some user profiles which will need addresses attached to them, and I am using Location 7.x-3.0-alpha1+1-dev & The Profile2 module.

With that current setup, and using the Location->cck feature with profile 2, I am unable to filter with views things like state/province etc.

But, if I instead use the "user locations" module, and instead associate the address that way, I can use things like exposed filter for state.

Now, my question is this: If going beyond Location7.x-3, and user locations is going the way of the dodo (according to the project page), will there be an "upgrade path" for user locations, or should I just start out using the cck piece of this with profile 2 and wait for functionality to come someday in the future?
