Field validation should be added in element validate

Hi.

i've seen link field structure and I think there would be useful add url validation in element_validate instead of field validate.
Doing this we can have the link element separated from link field and use it in custom forms, for example.

The only problem I've seen (seeing the code) is that validation is only done by configuration parameters. Could we add this parameters as properties of link element, for example?
