I just wanted to let you know that I've added initial integration with the Link module in the ShrinkTheWeb module. Starting with ShrinkTheWeb 7.x-1.2, we provide a set of field formatters that extend the existing Link field formatters with a URL preview image. The module is still a bit rough around the edges, but I'd love to get some feedback from the Link crew.

Issue summary: View changes

Hey guys and gals!

ShrinkTheWeb has been asked to take over development and maintenance of the "ShrinkTheWeb Screenshot Thumbnails" module for Drupal (see link in previous post above). In the past couple of weeks, we have taken care of all open issues, except for two.

One of them is a feature request for supporting "Alt" and "Title" tags on the website screenshots provided by our module. After researching this a bit and looking at existing link, field formatter, and related modules, we have come to realize that there is no existing solution for this.

However, the proposed solution by my developer is to basically create our own "ShrinkTheWeb" field type that works with our service and provides the requested functionality. The downside being that it is as big of a project as re-building the "Link" module itself, which seems redundant and not wise to duplicate the basic foundation of "Link" inside our own module.

Therefore, I would like to propose that "Link" add a new field type to support our service, while adding the ability to format the output website screenshot with "Alt" and "Title" tags. What do you all think?

Is that outside of the scope of "Link" or do you agree that duplicating "Link" in our module is overkill?

I am willing to contribute developer time and also funding, if this makes sense to do within the "Link" module.

I'm not familiar with Shrink the Web, but I totally understand that re-writing Link module doesn't sound like a good idea for you. Feel free to reach out at me - I'm jcfiala at the gmail dot com if you want to send me an email, or I could also pop onto irc sometime to chat about what it is you'd need.

But I'm open to expanding Link to do what you need, assuming it's not too much of a change, and especially if it's a case where you're willing to do the work! :)

It has taken far longer to get back to this than anticipated. It took 5 months to get a stable Drupal 8 release, due to numerous changes, fixing previously unreported bugs, and our decision to add quite a few more, new features.

Now, though, we're about to make a final release and are considering again the possibility to add "Alt" and "Title" tags to screenshots provided by our service and module. One of my developers, Dmitry, may pop in here to brainstorm. Just a quick heads up. ;)
