As of Drupal 8.6.x, a new core hook, hook_plugin_filter_TYPE__CONSUMER_alter() will provide the same functionality as this module has provided.
Additionally, the layout_builder_restrictions module will preserve the hooks from this module, and provide a UI equivalent.
This module provides some convenient alterations to the core layout functionality:
Restrict what blocks can be added through the interface
If you want to reduce the list of possible blocks to be added, to a more useful list of components, you can use this module for that.
An interface for this is being developed, dependent on changes arriving in core 8.6.x. Until then, there are some hooks provided for it.
Styling
This module adds some opinionated styling to the interface for selecting layout, blocks and organizing blocks in regions. Of course, in your theme, you can override this if you really wanted to.
