Is there a way to remove the A A+ A++ text size widget?

You can disable the font-resizer by commenting out the code in page.tpl.php

    <a id="default" href="#">
        A
    </a>
    <a id="larger" href="#">
        A+
    </a>
    <a id="largest" href="#">
        A++
    </a>
