I tried creating a jplayer mp3 node and copying the content into a block - doesn't work.

Currently I am using Nodes In Block but that is not a great option.

Previously I have used MP3 Player which ports the Wordpress Player, and can be inserted anywhere with a filter rather than a filefield.

Thanks for posting. It sounds useful but jPlayer is only a field formatter now. A dependent module would be a good solution i think

I do not like creating modules when other solutions are available off the shelf.

Good point. Maybe we'll also add simple 'player-in-a-block' feature so you don't have to install other modules
