I am using a site with quite a heavy use of field collections.

I found that when editing a field collection on its own everything was fine, however if editing a field collection embedded within a node the image fields were ignored. And hence image styles not generated.

I've provided my own patch, might be useful for someone else. Or perhaps could be incorporated into the next release?

I have tested the patch against the 7.3.4 version and it does indeed fix the image generation for embedded field collections.
Setting to needs review for the maintainer.

I've committed this version; doesn't hardcode anything.
