Definition: no files can't be selected from the pop-up finder window while editing a node cck image field and selecting 'upload image'. The extensions filter is not considered.
It happens on Google Chrome 8.0.552.237 on Mac OS-X 10.5.8. Drupal 6.20. on Garland Theme.
It works on Mozilla Firefox and Safari, though. So we can consider that the extensions filter on the image fied are well expressed.

If this is with a CCK imagefield, then Image module is the wrong project. Reassigning; please check the version number.

I can replicate this behaviour on my MacBook Pro running Chrome 8.0.552.237, OSX 10.5.8, Pressflow 6.19 with a highly modified Ginkgo theme. The uploads however do work on a Windows 7 machine running Chrome 8.0.552.237 with no apparent issues with the same site.

Uploads used to work on Chrome on my MacBook Pro but have stopped working for some reason.

Update to the 3.9 version of both ImageField and FileField. See #939102: Accept attribute contains extensions instead of mimetypes (preventing Chrome from selecting files)
