Image uploads fail with a white screen of death (WSOD). I have five different content types and they all fail. I spent some hours tracking this down and found that when an upload is attempted, the image is uploaded, a thumbnail image is created, and a record put in the 'files' table, but no record is updated in the field table (content_field_image_cache in my case). I couldn't trace exactly where the operation fails but no error seemed to be generated in the debugger (xdebug). I am running Pressflow-6.19, CCK-6.x-2.9, Filefield-6.x-3.9, Imagefield-6.x-3.9.

This issue might overlap with http://drupal.org/node/434394 but that thread is so long it's hard to tell.

I was able to work around my problem by disabling the AHAH progress meter and just using the throbber. With the throbber enabled, the uploads work as expected.

You should enable PHP error handling (display_errors = On in php.ini), otherwise it's hard to say what the error is. If uploads work fine with the throbber, it's probably an issue with the configuration of the uploadprogress PECL library you have installed on your server.

I had modified index.php to include

error_reporting(E_ALL);
ini_set('display_errors', TRUE);
ini_set('display_startup_errors', TRUE);

Is that good enough or do I need to set display_errors = on in php.ini?

I saw no errors in the drupal or apache log.

I saw the problem on both a fully patched Ubuntu 9.10 and a MAMP 1.9 installation. I'm not sure if this is the version you're talking about but phpinfo reports uploadprogress version 1.01 on both installations.

Anyway, my intent wasn't to finger-point but more to help the next person who might be able to save some hours.

Unfortunately some configuration changes to PHP cannot be made within a PHP script, so your changes will not have any effect. Those changes need to be made either in .htaccess or directly in php.ini.

Turns out I already had display_errors = On in php.ini. I turned the progress bar back on and repeated the experiment with additionally display_startup_errors = On on php.ini. Still WSOD and nothing in the drupal log.

Well not much I can say here. I can't help debug problems this generic. In any case, server configuration isn't something directly handled by this module anyway.
