I created an image field in user profile form uploaded an image and started editing using image editor after saving the image. The original image is not replaced with the edited one.

It should work just fine like with any other Image field.
I need more details on this. Did you tried to use Image Editor for Image field or Image Editor Inline? What exact editor did you use?
