Doing a test install of aegir on a VM running Ubuntu 12.04

Got installed and essentially ran using a dummy FQDN (editing hosts files), when decided to use a different FQDN to put on dev network, aegir would reinstall using the fqdn used in the first install. Where is it cached?

did
apt-get remove aegir aegir-hostmaster aegir-provision drush
manually remove /var/aegir
manually delete mysql db and even the mysql:user entries that had previous user info

hostname -f and uname -n show NEW FQDN, rebooted, /etc/hosts and /etc/hostname are all NEW FQDN

run install

get to

You can now visit your site at http://old_fqdn/......

where is the info being stored? apt-get remove should REMOVE any old settings.
Is it impossible to do a clean install short of wiping the VM and starting from scratch?

Doing an apt-get purge aegir aegir-hostmaster aegir-provision drush and then re-installing may be what you need to do to remove the configuration files too. apt-get remove should generally just remove the program, and not the configuration for it.
