Collect and display worldwide group stats

I think it would be great to collect and display group stats, both as an overall count and within groups (some of this already exists).

This could be on par w/ the d.o. homepage, but for groups, things like

This week in groups.drupal.org

• XX new groups
• XXX comments worldwide
• XX events added

etc.

...this can replace the 'latest' views and instead appear as a link, so if people are interested, they can click through.
