Allow node authors the ability to see the stats of their nodes

Not sure if this is possible but I couldnt seem to get it to work.

I want node authors the ability to see the statistics page of their nodes. Actually I want another permission entirely to enable this on a per role basis, something like "See Statistics of own [node-type] nodes" -- that way I dont have to allow regular users the ability to see stats on their nodes but for certain roles (like publisher) they can see their own stats but not everyones.

Also, having this on a node-type basis means I dont have to show them stats for forum posts, pages, or other random content types, but only for 'stories' or whatever.
