jkitching commentedI figured that since we would be releasing a 0.x version before a 1.x release it made more sense to have a 0.x development branch. Is there a generally accepted format of version names in Drupal?
rickvug commentedThere are some projects that make 0.x release such as 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 etc. What is more common is to work towards a 1.0 release and on the way have alphas, betas and/or finally release candidates as needed. This is the approach that I'd recommend for you. Best practice is to release unstable code where features and apis are in flux as alphas. Once development has shifted towards reducing bugs and further testing, start rolling betas until you are comfortable rolling a stable or RC release. Sound good?

rickvug commentedGoogling turned up some better documentation: http://drupal.org/node/396286. Contrib is a bit of a "wild west" so you unfortunately see a lot of variation from these standards.

jkitching commentedHi Rick,
I see your point and have decided to make a 6.x-1.0-alpha1 release that should show up shortly. So to match that I want to change the development version to 6.x-1.0-dev, but I am not entirely sure how. When I figure that out I'll close this bug...
rickvug commentedGlad to see this alpha release. Note that it should be a recommended rather than supported release. Normally supported release are for older release that you will support but are not recommended. Alternately, something like a 2.x-alpha release can be supported but not recommended if you'd rather have users stick with the latest 1.x stable release.
As for the 1.0-dev snapshot, your best bet may be to ask around in #drupal or #drupal-support if the docs aren't helping.

dave reidChanged it to 6.x-1.x for you. I'll check back tomorrow to make sure it adjusted properly.
