Geofield 8x-1.1 causes crash with Rules Module

I have looked at the issue list but cannot see the one i am having within them.
I am using Geofield 8x-1.1, Rules Essentials 8.x-1.x-dev and Rules 8.x-3.x-dev
I am trying to use a simple rule on my site. All it does is that after a new entity is saved, it changes the value of one text field in the entity and then displays a site message. I have a geofield in the entity. If I create an entity without geofield data the entity saves and the rule works perfectly. As soon as data is put into the geofield I get a white screen with "the website had an unexpected error" message. If I disable the rule, the entity will save perfectly happily with geofield data. The consequence at the moment is that I cannot use any rules on entities that have geofields.

I am having other issues with setting the values in geofield data using rules, but this one is a stand-alone item.
