There is something I don't get, with other base themes using 960 grid system I can just use grid-3 classes for divs to have them "stack" next to each other, achieving complex layouts. But it seems with fusion even with the grid16-3 class it doesn't stack due to missing float:left; in the CSS. Is there a reason behind that?

stephthegeek commentedBlocks automatically float up against each other. Are you using manual div tags in a node or something? The float is on the .block class, so you'll need to add that (or float your specific block IDs) class to your divs.
