Created images with field_image in a node. Display is vertical (see attachment). How to change it to a horizontal display in the node? Guess, this is a well known issue. Can someone point me to the solution?

Grab a CSS tutorial.
float:left will be what you want, but it depends on what you are doing with your theme.
Not a filefield issue, just add it to your css.
