Field lock adds additional level of permissions so certain users can lock a field, preventing others from editing or deleting it.
This is a helper module especially focused on installation profiles, allowing a developer to prevent fields which are required for some functionality elsewhere in the site from being altered by administrators who should be able to manage/add fields, but should not remove certain fields without things breaking.
