Just wondering if anyone has any specific tips for me on this issue.

If I go to admin/content/feed and manually refresh a feed, I can watch my mysqld process spike up to 170+%. It also happens when cron refreshes the feed, but that's harder to correlate because cron can run multiple tasks and there's no telling when one is causing the spike.

This happens every single time I refresh a feed without fail. It usually lasts for only a five to ten seconds, and then mysqld returns to normal.

Is this possibly a MySQL engine problem? Maybe too little RAM being used? Thread concurrency? Normal behavior for FeedAPI? I'm just not even sure where to begin troubleshooting.

Well, it's really normal behaviour. Normally these spikes should not hurt and the site should remain responsive. Do you experience any slowdown on the site meanwhile?

Aron, I was experiencing very horrible slowdown. However, I found the problem, and it was the way I had MySQL configured. My buffer was just too big, and was caching queries far too large. So any writes to the DB were near fatal to it.

All is well now. Thanks.
