How can I get FeedAPI Node to store clean html in databases

FeedAPI Node is creating entries in my mysql that look like this:

 title                 | nid | PointToUrl                         | body                                               |
+-----------------------+-----+------------------------------------+----------------------------------------------------+
| The Great War Archive | 223 | http://www.thegreatwararchive.org/ | testing <em>some html</em> in the body | 

based on this -- original RSS:

However, the mysql content that I am trying to generate is this:

That is, I would like the body to contain well-formed html mark-up .... Any thoughts how I can tackle this problem?
