My project needs a module just like this one, which provides the very basic entity type to separate from the more complex "node" system. I'm going to hire someone to contribute code on it. Before I do that, I'd like to know if this module is abandoned or not? Is it possible to grant me write permission to the git repository so I can contribute code to make it go faster? Or should I just create a sandbox project and go from there?

I think it's a little easier to just reuse the "model" module. Here's my sandbox module: https://drupal.org/sandbox/danithaca/2067519. At some point I might do a batch rename to change "model" to "entity basic", and merge that one to this module. Thanks though.
