It seems to me the settings for "Thumbnail size" is not working in 7.x-3.x-dev - any size I enter into the main settings form or the profiles form seems to be ignored by the file browser. Could anyone get this working - or confirm that it's not recognized?

As I understand the issue in the library css. During the test on 2.1.40 library thumbnails has been regenerated in the correct size after cached thumbnail deletion, but it showing in 48x48 by elfinder css.

Confirmed - thumbnails are actually generated in the correct size. What I've found is that the 2.1.40 library (and maybe a few version before already) has individual settings (Preferences) to be used in the file viewer.

In these preferences, there's a slider to adjust the size that builds on the originally created thumbs:

I haven't tested this yet , but it might even be that these settings are front end user based stored in a cookie.

Maybe we could push Drupal settings to these...

I think those are now two different things - the drupal size that we set in elfinder's settings is the "base" size that is then be used by the library which allows different gallery images sizes. So if you generate only 48px thumbs, sizing them up to 96px in elfinder browser will not give you more resolution, but only a bigger pixelated version of the original thumb. What I did for some of my configurations is now set the thumbs to be generated at 128px - which doesn't make the thumbs too big in file size, but allows the front end user to increase the zoom setting in their browser if they wish to do so and also gain a better visual resolution.

A note in the drupal settings could be helpful - i.e. that this defines the base size, which will then be used in the file browser where it can be adjusted by individual users to what they prefer in their viewer "Preferences"
